Benefits of the Parent Visa Subclass 103

The Parent Visa Subclass 103 offers several important benefits that provide a great opportunity to settle in Australia.

Stay in Australia as a
Permanent Resident (PR)

The Parent Visa Subclass 103 allows you to bring your parents to live in Australia permanently. As permanent residents, they can enjoy Australia’s lifestyle, work opportunities, and high-quality healthcare without any visa restrictions.

Sponsor Eligible Family Members

Once granted permanent residency, your parents can sponsor eligible family members to join them in Australia. This helps keep your family united and gives them access to the same rights, including the ability to work, study, and benefit from Australia’s healthcare system.

Apply for Australian Citizenship (If Eligible)

After living in Australia as permanent residents for a few years, your parents may become eligible to apply for Australian citizenship. This grants them additional rights, such as the ability to vote and apply for an Australian passport.

The Parent Visa Subclass 103 provides permanent residency, the opportunity to reunite with your family in Australia, and the potential for citizenship in the future—allowing your parents to enjoy all the benefits of living in Australia.

Parent Visa Subclass 103 Eligibility Requirements

Before your parents apply for the Parent Visa Subclass 103, ensure that they meet the following eligibility criteria:

Not Hold This Visa Already

If your parents have previously applied for or hold a Sponsored Parent (Temporary) (Subclass 870) visa, they cannot apply for this visa.

Apply as a Retiree

If applying as a retiree, your parents must meet the following conditions:

  • On 8 May 2018, they were holding or had previously held an Investor Retirement (subclass 405) or Retirement (subclass 410) visa.
  • They must have not held any other primary visa between 8 May 2018 and the date of your Parent Visa application.
  • If applying as a retiree, they do not need to meet the balance of family test, provide an assurance of support, or have a sponsor.

Have a Sponsor

Your parents must have a sponsor in Australia who is their child, a permanent resident or Australian citizen, or an eligible New Zealand citizen. The sponsor must meet specific obligations.

Meet the Balance-of-Family Test

The balance-of-family test ensures that at least half of your parent’s children are living in Australia, or that more of their children live in Australia than in any other country.

Have an Assurance of Support

Your parents must provide proof of an assurance of support, which is a formal commitment from their sponsor to support them financially during their stay in Australia.

Documents Needed for the Parent Visa Subclass 103

To apply for this Parent Visa, your parents will need to provide several important documents, including:

  • Proof of identity (passport, birth certificate).
  • Proof of relationship with you (the sponsoring child), e.g. birth certificates, adoption papers.
  • Proof that the sponsor (you) meet the requirements.
  • Proof of the balance of family test (e.g. evidence of your children’s location).
  • Assurance of support form.
  • Health and character certificates.

By meeting these eligibility criteria, your parents will be one step closer to securing their Parent Visa Subclass 103. Let Knowbal help you smoothly with this process!

Cost and Processing Time

When applying for the Parent Visa Subclass 103, it’s essential to be aware of the associated costs and processing times so that you can plan accordingly.

These include:

Application Cost

The application fee for the Parent Visa Subclass 103 is AUD 5,125.00. Make sure to budget for this fee when planning your application.

Processing Time

The Parent Visa Subclass 103 has a long processing time due to high demand and limited places available each year. As a result, these applications are subject to capping and queueing.

The process for Parent visa applications occurs in two stages:

Initial Assessment

Your application is first reviewed to determine whether it will be placed in the queue for further processing.

Queue and Final Assessment

Once spaces become available, applications are released from the queue and undergo a final assessment.

Due to the capped number of available places, we are unable to provide an exact processing timeframe.

It’s important to plan ahead and make sure your application is complete to avoid delays.

Other Parent Visas

If the Parent Visa Subclass 103 is not suitable for your situation, you may want to consider other parent visa options, including:

Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 143)

This is a permanent visa that may be processed faster, but it comes with a higher cost.

Contributory Parent (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 173)

This is a temporary visa that eventually leads to the Contributory Parent (Subclass 143) visa. It may be processed faster but comes with a higher overall cost compared to Subclass 103.

Sponsored Parent (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 870)

This temporary visa allows parents to visit their children in Australia for up to three or five years, with a cumulative maximum stay of 10 years.

If you are unsure about which visa is best for you, the Knowbal team can help you explore your options and guide you with the best choice based on your circumstances.
