Criteria Description
Citizenship Open to all nationalities, provided nomination is approved by an eligible regional Australian employer.
Age The applicant must be under 45 years of age at the time of application, unless an exemption applies.
English language The applicant must have Competent English, as defined by DHA (or meet an applicable exemption).
Visa status / Bridging visa If applying in Australia, the applicant must hold a substantive visa or an eligible Bridging Visa A, B, or C at lodgement.
Skills assessment A positive skills assessment is required for the nominated occupation, unless an exemption applies.
Occupation The nominated occupation must be listed under LIN 19/219 and be eligible for the 494 Employer Sponsored stream.
Work experience The applicant must have at least 3 years of full-time, relevant work experience in the nominated occupation or a closely related role, unless an exemption applies.
Location at time of lodgement The application may be lodged inside or outside Australia, but not while the applicant is in immigration clearance.
Location of employment The nominated position must be located in a designated regional area of Australia, as defined under LIN 22/022.
Location at time of grant The applicant may be inside or outside Australia when the visa is granted, but not in immigration clearance.
AFP / character checks The applicant must meet character requirements, including AFP or overseas police checks where requested.
Section 48 bar The applicant can still apply for this visa even if they are subject to a Section 48 bar, depending on their circumstances and where the application is lodged.
